The Wall Street Journal Barron’s Group is looking to fill the role of Web Developer within our in-house creative agency, The Trust, in Hong Kong on a 12-month contract basis. The Trust is The Wall Street Journal Barron’s Group’s in-house creative consultancy and serves our advertising clients by producing award-winning web executions which are similar to those created by content studios or digital agencies.
Reporting into the Senior Creative Solutions Manager in Hong Kong, this role collaborates closely with our Editorial, Design, Producer and Planning Teams to create content-led programs which help our clients to achieve their business and marketing goals through compelling digital, audio and video executions. This role requires someone with strong communication skills as well as someone who can thrive in a fast-paced environment and come up with solutions independently. The Web Developer will support the team by creating bug-free and user-friendly web programs that work well across all Dow Jones user platforms.
What We Need
- Collaborate with design and editorial teams to execute mockups to specification, while offering UX improvements where relevant
- Provide maintenance and upkeep to legacy sites and client programs
- Manage QA feedback coming from the team and client
- Apply analytic end-points to measure all user interactions and provide insights to reporting team when needed
- Provide clear and timely updates to account/project management colleagues
- Ensure code quality through testing and debugging. Troubleshoot bugs and apply fixes using QA tools, such as browserstack, Chrome developer tools
- Manage time effectively to deliver flawlessly, on spec, by deadline
What You Bring
- Fluency in both oral and written English is essential for this role
- 2-3 years experience in developing websites within a creative team
- Experience with using Github for code management and deployment
- Expertise in front-end code stack : HTML5, CSS, CSS3, SASS, Javascript language
- Leverage task automation tools (e.g. Gulp, Grunt, Brunch) to streamline code
- Experience with frontend toolkits such as Bootstrap, GSAP, Swiper, jQuery
- A mobile-first mindset to build web experiences. Implementation of responsive design development
- Good understanding of cross-platform and cross-browser issues
- Extensive knowledge in the Wordpress theme development and PHP language
- Knowledge of existing inbuilt WordPress functions
- Creation of custom post types
- Knowledge of ACF (Advanced Custom Fields Plugin)
- Write codes that comply with our system’s strict security standards
What Sets You Apart
- Experience building rich media (HTML5) ad units with external data sources
- Experience building and deploying creative and native advertising templates within Google Ad Manager
- Strong vanilla Javascript experience
- An eye for pixel perfect development work
- Apply knowledge of industry trends and modern coding techniques to improve code performance and render times
- Experience with 3D-animation, WebGL, three.js, D3.js will be a plus
