The position of Volunteer Activities Assistant is a minimum one day per week (up to 7.6 hours per day) role that will primarily assist with the delivery of organized social and educational activities within the building. This includes; adhering to all safety systems, setting up activity rooms in preparation for sessions; promoting and showcasing upcoming activities to residents, leading and providing a weekly farmers produce market; occasionally attending activities including low cost cooking group, positively engaging residents pre and post sessions and assisting with the packing/setting up of spaces in readiness for next group. In addition the position will undertake some ordering of bulk fresh fruit and vegetables for the weekly farmers market. The Activities Assistant will collaborate closely with the Concierge and Administration Worker on shift to enhance access to residents and ensure communication to Case Managers is concise and timely.

Supportive Housing is an innovative approach to housing people who have experienced long term homelessness and who have high and complex needs. The Elizabeth Street development is the first of its kind in Australia and is based on five key elements:

 

  • Actively engage with all safety and security systems within ESCG
  • Engage with resident in an informal capacity, working from a strength based, client focused framework
  • Monitor well-being of residents through informal engagement and communicate issues to Concierge and Administration Worker and or Case Manager for recording in SRS
  • Proactively promote upcoming activities and events within ESCG
  • Liaise with session provider to understand the room requirements for following sessions
  • Liaise with Produce Wholesaler on required product for following week
  • Occasionally attend cooking group and assist Trainer / Chef with operations
  • Provided 1:1 assistance to new attendees to assist with successful transition into cooking group
  • Assist with the packing up and resetting of activity areas (excluding kitchen) in readiness for next scheduled activity
  • Participate in supervision and provide and receive feedback and other development opportunities
  • Experience in and or understanding of the homelessness sector
  • Experience in customer service / service environment
  • Ability to promote and engage new opportunities to residents
  • Highly energetic and enthusiastic personality
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in particular verbal
  • Well-developed organisational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated willingness to work and engage with people with complex needs
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities
