As the Technical Officer (Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy) you will provide a high level of technical support within the dedicated physiotherapy and occupational therapy laboratories to students, both Undergraduate and Postgraduate, as well as Academic and Research staff within the School of Health Sciences.The Technical Officer (Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy) will be required to utilise a large scope of skills including the use, maintenance, and calibration of specialised equipment.

The position works closely with the Manager Technical Services - Health, Team Leader Technical Services (Allied Health), and academic staff within the discipline to ensure that training and support is provided in a timely manner for all laboratory and clinical activities. This position provides accurate advice to the Manager Technical Services - Health and the Team Leader Technical Services (Allied Health) concerning the current and forecasted operations of the physiotherapy and occupational therapy laboratories and required purchases of new equipment and laboratory or clinical consumables. The position also collaborates with and supports other Technicians and Technical Officers within the Health Technical Services Team.
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Significant knowledge and demonstrated experience in the procurement, operation and maintenance of a wide range of physiotherapy and occupational therapy equipment.
  • Well-developed word processing, spreadsheet and database skills. Familiarity with the use of propriety software for laboratory or clinical equipment and systems.
  • Familiarity with the use of digital programs for Allied Health management including, but not limited to, teleconferencing software and electronic medical records databases.
  • Good understanding of occupational health and safety and other statutory and reporting requirements relevant to clinical and teaching environments.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting safety risk assessments, preparing safety documentation (such as safe operating procedures) and demonstrating the safe use of laboratory and clinical equipment.
  • Resolve student and staff queries and problems accurately, in a timely manner and with a “can do” approach and providing clear advice and options directed to student and staff needs.
  • Good organisation, time management and prioritising skills.
