Let's talk about the role and responsibilities:
The Technical Business analyst is the link between a company’s data program, it’s technical implementation and its business objectives. Technical Business analysts help businesses extract value from their big data systems in a cost-effective way by determining the requirements of a project or program, how technically the objectives can be realised, and communicating them to stakeholders and partners.
- Works closely with stakeholders to understand business needs as they relate to a potential change or transformation.
- Elicit, validate, document and communicate business requirements.
- Breakdown requirements, so they are easily understood across the whole team.
- Able to document - requirements specifications, NFR’s, and data mapping
- Business process modelling and improving business processes
- Identify costs and business savings
- Implement, test and deploy solutions to business problems
- Support business transition and helping to establish change
- Creating functional specifications for new systems and processes
- Acting as an advisor to senior managers and executive teams
- Influence stakeholders, gain approvals from multiple points
- Drive requirements from complex business problems.
- perform verification of the solutions to assess if it meets the objective
Let’s talk about your qualifications and experience:
- 5-8 years’ previous experience working in a technical business analyst role, with experience on a product development project
- Experience documenting Functional/non-functional requirements in an agile project.
- Worked in an Agile and/or Scaled Agile Framework (SAFE) Software Delivery Life Cycle is required
- Experience documenting API’s requirements, high level process flows/sequence diagrams.
- Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases
- Working in a Big Data program is highly desired
- Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets
- Experience with the following tools and technologies:
- Hadoop, Spark, Kafka,
- Relational SQL and NoSQL databases
- Data pipeline/workflow management tools such as Azkaban and Airflow with a preference for Airflow
- AWS cloud services such as EC2, EMR, RDS and Redshift
- Stream-processing systems such as Storm and Spark-Streaming would be useful
- Object-oriented/object function scripting languages such as Python, Java, C++, etc.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills to elicit information and influence the business and the data teams to achieve key outcomes
- Critical thinking skills to ensure the solution designs will meet the business needs and requirements, through business planning, needs analysis and risk assessment
- Prior application of business analyst collaboration tools and techniques
- Able to plan, estimate and report on Business Analysis activities and deliverables in a dynamic environment
- Proactively review and revise documentation in light of any new information and/or changes to initial assumptions, including implications for project time, cost, quality and risk
- Experience in testing, training and implementation activities to ensure the successful delivery of the solution
