Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Teaching Laboratory Coordinator to join our world-leading School of Pharmacy. Our School of Pharmacy is one of the largest Schools of this type in Australia with over 50 academic staff (including joint appointments with the community, hospital and government pharmacies) who are widely published internationally and have extensive research backgrounds.
Located at Brisbane’s Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence (PACE), this is an exciting opportunity for you to join a premier laboratory and provide specialist technical support and subject matter expertise to enhance high quality teaching laboratory operations at the facility.
Key responsibilities will include:
Ensure the overall effectiveness and currency of the School’s specialised teaching facilities, including laboratories, dispensing and clinical simulation rooms.
Provide technical laboratory support and proactively advise academic staff and researchers around relevant and appropriate laboratory methods, equipment, quality assurance procedures, risk assessment and waste management.
Supervise the School's team of Scientific Officers and monitor performance, work allocation, training and ensure staff development is maintained.
Assist with the training and supervision of researchers and students conducting research activities.
Prepare, set up, clear away and/or dispose of chemicals, equipment, instruments and demonstrations.
Troubleshoot issues with experiments and equipment.
Guide and support students, researchers and other technical staff in testing and development projects, test work, set up and technical/equipment training.
Ensure a high standard of laboratory housekeeping, waste disposal, sample storage and management and chemical inventory management is implemented.
Maintain a full working knowledge of the methodologies and equipment utilised in the laboratories and clinical simulation teaching facilities.
Assist in the development of testing scientific procedures and methodologies, including analysis of the quality and acceptance of existing procedures.
Maintain, service, repair and calibrate equipment and resources.
Perform laboratory experiments and generate reports.
Assist with the development of the School’s teaching roster, including casual allocations for casual staff, and acting as an alternate administrator for the School’s casual payments tracking system.
Safety
Ensure a high standard of occupational health and safety, risks analysis/mitigation and standards and systems, including inductions, supervision, equipment training registers, administration of Laboratory/Facility Inventories, reporting and investigating injuries, incidents and hazards.
Monitor compliance with University laboratory requirements, including supporting laboratory audit processes and quarantine procedures, such as internal and external laboratory compliance checks.
Ensure safe design principles are applied to the activities of the Laboratory/Facility plant designed and manufactured in out Laboratories and clinical simulation facilities.
Operational and Administration
Coordinate laboratory equipment requests, maintain consumables and other items required to meet planned activities and undertake inventory functions, ensuring that periodic audit items and maintenance schedules are met.
Contribute to development of laboratory budget planning with regard to laboratory and clinical simulation family consumables, equipment, facilities maintenance and service contracts, as well as undertake procurement activities as required.
Education
In conjunction with discipline-based academic staff, develop and maintain undergraduate teaching activities in all specialised teaching faculties to satisfy learning objectives for undergraduate courses, including: determining requirements for the preparation/conduct of classes; the development and testing of new practicals and participation in tutor training.
Assist with distribution, handling and administration of teaching related materials such as practical notes and examination papers.
Assist with preparations for and participate in the outreach activities, information sessions and workshops for schools and other external organisations.
Assist with supervision of casual teaching staff.
Liaise with internal and external clients.
