Coonabarabran High School is a comprehensive high school which includes a Support Unit with four classes, situate in North West New South Wales. It has an enrolment of 330 students. Approximately 27% of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. The school enjoys a long and proud tradition of excellent student outcomes in academic, sporting and cultural fields of endeavour. The school provides students with diverse and rich educational opportunities; both within and beyond the classroom. The students are positively encouraged and guided to extend themselves in a variety of fields, embracing the school motto 'Forever Dare'. The school's commitment to the fostering of high expectations and the supportive and positive rapport which exists between staff and students at the school underpins the productive and positive nature of the school's learning environment.

The position is within the school's Special Education Unit which comprises two MC classes and two IO/AU classes. The Support Unit is a small and supportive Faculty within our school with support from experienced SLSOs in each class. This position will be responsible for teaching Special Education classes across a number of Key Learning Areas and being an active member of the Special Education Faculty and School community.

Selection Criteria

• Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with complex needs including intellectual and physical disabilities and emotional disturbance, Autism and behaviour disorders.

• Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

• Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum, assessment and students’ welfare.

• Demonstrated ability to design and implement quality teaching programs to enhance the engagement and outcomes of students with individual needs.

• Understanding of the needs of students from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background.
