Canley Vale Tutorial Centre is a faculty of Fairvale High School that caters for students experiencing emotional and/or behavioural difficulties that impact on their ability to learn in a mainstream school environment. The Centre supports up to twenty eight students in Years 9 to 12. Students use their time at the Centre to address their educational needs in an attempt to re-engage with their education or look at future options in the workplace.
Canley Vale Tutorial Centre is a proactive special needs setting that engages a whole school system for managing behaviour, developing social skills and resilience. Students with behavioural difficulties are encouraged to achieve key behavioural competencies and to make good choices through a positive, welcoming and educational environment. The aim for many of these students is to re-enter their home school through a collaborative transition program. Students experiencing emotional difficulties have an opportunity to develop their knowledge and resilience skills through programs designed to support the holistic needs of the student. This includes social and living skills, together with the development of academic outcomes across all key learning areas with a particular emphasis on literacy and numeracy.

CVTC is made up of 4 EDBD Support Classes that cater for students from Years 9 -12 with varying complexity , experiencing emotional and/or behavioural difficulties that impact their ability to learn in a mainstream environment.
Teachers have up to 7 students in their class, with the support of an SLSO and teach a variety of Key Learning Areas. Extra Curricular programs include mentor programs, wellbeing programs and sports programs aimed at improving self-regulation and mental health. Classroom teachers work collaboratively on programming, assessment and personalised support plans including, Literacy, Numeracy and Behaviour. There is a strong focus on re-engaging students with their education and community as well as planning for transition into work or other study pathways.

  • Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with Emotional Disturbance, Behaviour Difficulties, disabilities, and other complex learning and support needs
  • Evidence of classroom management skills to promote a positive learning environment with the capacity to manage challenging student behaviour.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively in a team with SLSOs to lead the teaching, learning and wellbeing in your classroom.
  • Experience in designing, implementing and monitoring personalised learning and support plans to meet the learning and wellbeing needs, goals and interests of student.
