Finigan School of Distance Education (Finigan SDE) is a ‘purpose-built’ K-12 distance education school located in Queanbeyan NSW. The school has 95 fulltime equivalent teaching staff and 800 enrolments. Finigan SDE has been specifically designed to meet the needs of distance education students and teachers. The school's facilities include 20 web lesson studios and 2 video production studios. Students are supported with live online lessons and quality independent elearning experiences.

The school has 7 learning hubs located across south-eastern NSW where students are able to access face-to-face teacher support. Residential schools, operate at regular intervals throughout the year. Teachers conduct field visits to provide face-to-face support for students.

Finigan SDE is an equity provision for many students. We provide quality individualised learning programs for students who meet the criteria of one or more of the distance education enrolment categories.

This opportunity is to join the school’s Supported Learning Faculty. Primary expertise is required to creatively develop course programmes to work across curriculum content using the 7 - 10 syllabi. Through adjustments and strategies you will provide support to students in Stages 4 and 5, building on student capacities to address gaps in their learning while building confident and capable learners.

This position requires staff to work onsite at Finigan School of Distance Education in Queanbeyan, NSW.

 

Specific Selection Criteria


1. Approval to teach students with learning and support needs (primary) and/or experience teaching students with learning and support needs (primary) in regular classes. Capacity to provide specialist assistance to students in regular classes with additional learning and support needs and their teachers.

2. Highly developed communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, committed to building positive, collaborative partnerships with staff, students, families, and the broader community to improve student learning outcomes.

3. Demonstrated capacity to enrich student learning opportunities by developing understanding of the different backgrounds and needs of disengaged and isolated students and implement effective strategies to engage, manage and support a diverse range of students.

4. Willingness to collaboratively plan, adjust and deliver teaching programs across the Stage 3, 4 and 5 curriculum, with the ability to collaboratively plan and implement high-quality, differentiated programs using the Literacy and Numeracy Progressions and personalise learning to meet the diverse needs of all students.
