The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) has been the leading Australian provider of engineering and IT education and research for over 150 years. We are a multidisciplinary School organised into three key areas; Computing and Information Systems (CIS), Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (CBE) and Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure Engineering (EMI). FEIT is seeking and emerging, passionate researcher to undertake a unique position established to help foster the departmental strategy for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, specifically focusing on the opportunities that arise at the boundaries of our current research groups in Control and Signal Processing; Power and Energy; Communications and Networks; and Electronic and Photonic Systems.The successful candidate will have a vision for future exciting directions of research in electrical and electronic engineering, and will undertake independent research that contributes to multiple research groups. They will interact and collaborate with multiple academics to produce high quality research outputs, as well as identifying and applying for research funding from a diverse range of sources.This is an exciting opportunity to grow your research profile by contributing to significant interdisciplinary projects. You will be an ambassador for the Department and supported to achieve your goals across all pillars of an academic career.

Responsibilities include:

  • Independently plan and carry out research at the intersection of Departmental research groups in line with the strategic directions of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
  • Contribute to the development of the Department’s and the School’s strong research program in Control and Signal Processing, Power and Energy, Communications and Networks, Electronic and Photonic Systems.
  • Contribute to teaching activities as required and supervise junior research staff

You are a passionate researcher committed to conducting innovative research as evidenced through scholarly publication. You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships with a broad range of collaborators, produce high-quality publications and communicate concepts to technical and non-technical audiences. You demonstrate great initiative and self-motivation and effectively prioritise competing tasks to meet project deadlines.

You will also have:

  • A PhD Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • A record of quality research as evidenced by publications in leading journals and at conferences commensurate with opportunity.
  • Ability to perform independent research and a commitment to lead interdisciplinary research projects evidenced by a well-considered research plan for the duration of the appointment.
  • Excellent ability in analysing data, problem solving and maintaining accurate research records.
