Description:
A new 6 month initial contract opportunity is currently on offer for a Systems Engineer to join this well recognised and leading Energy Provider based in Brisbane CBD.
The Systems Engineer will be required to take on the responsibility of developing, implementing and maintaining the Organisations Windows and Linux Server and VMWare platforms both in the Data Centres and in the Cloud.
This involves the delivery, support, administration and maintenance of Server Operating System technologies within the ICT environment.
Key Responsibilities to be performed by the Systems Engineer will be as below:
- Administration: Install, configure, monitor operating systems, associated software, and hardware components for the Windows and Linux Server and VMWare platforms.
- Automation: Plan, standardise and automate repeatable operational processes using Infrastructure as Code scripting technologies for the Windows and Linux Server and VMWare platforms.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize the Windows and Linux Server and VMWare platforms to achieve high performance, availability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Problem Resolution:Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to the Windows and Linux Server and VMWare platforms and provide ongoing support.
- Business Continuity: Collaborate with other teams, offering guidance and support in building the Windows and Linux Server and VMWare components of highly availability solutions.
- Risk Management: Identify operational risks, track them in the Operational Risk Register and implement mitigant/control initiatives within agreed timeframes for the Windows and Linux Server and VMWare platforms.
- Life Cycling: Plan, document and implement warranty and end of support/life activities for the Windows and Linux Server and VMWare platforms.
- Documentation: Create comprehensive technical documentation for the Windows and Linux Server and VMWare platforms including architecture, processes, and configurations.
- Reporting: develop and prepare regular operational reports for system health, system capacity including recommendations for risk management and efficiency improvement for the Windows and Linux Server and VMWare platforms.
- Root Cause Analysis: Conduct high-level root-cause analysis of service interruptions and establish preventive measures.
- On-call: Participate in an on-call roster.
TO be considered for this role, the Organisation is seeking to engage the following level of technical experience:
- 5+ years proven experience in Windows and Linux Server and VMWare Engineering.
- Successful track record of developing, implementing, and managing Windows and Linux Server and VMWare environments.
- Experience working with and enhancing IT Service Management processes.
- Proficient at PowerShell scripting.
- Proven Experience with the following technologies:
- Knowledge of best practice security principles with Windows and Linux Server and VMWare platforms and the mechanisms for configuring systems in line with security policies and compliance experience.
- Demonstrated capability to work on projects with diverse stakeholder teams to implement Windows and Linux Server and VMWare solutions.
- Demonstrated business acumen and the ability to rapidly understand a business domain, and how technology supports its performance
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including stakeholder, vendor and senior executive interaction.
- Knowledge and experience with DevOps, Agile, Lean practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in IT.
- Relevant Microsoft Server, Red Hat and VMWare certifications (desirable)
