About the role

BCE is a community of 146 schools where students and staff partner together to contribute to a student-focused education system that empowers students to shape and enrich our world. As Student Voice Engagement Officer, you will work directly with students as part of the Student Voice Initiative to ensure that children are safe, informed and participating in the decisions that affect them in education.

The Student Voice Initiative was piloted in 2017, with the first team of student voice consultants coming together in 2018. Since this time over 56 students and 20 BCE schools have been part of the consultant team, with some students returning year after year to continue to grow the student voice initiative and represent their BCE peers. Your key responsibilities :

  • Support the recruitment, selection and induction of Student Voice Consultant team including support for peer mentors and volunteers.
  • Build the capacity of Student Voice Consultants to engage and represent the views and ideas of BCE students.
  • Assist in the student led event planning and student identified priorities.
  • Assist in the development of platforms and mechanisms to grow student participation in the program.
  • Support the development of professional learning and training opportunities for staff and students in the area of Student Voice.
  • Provide quality written work and advice to ensure key deliverable are met.
  • Communicate across BCE communities and develop student-friendly content for website, social media and team sites.
  • Support student consultation for BCE projects, policies and procedures and support students at meetings and events.


About You:
You will bring your passion to make a difference in the path of young people’s lives and help them to ensure they feel heard and empowered in the decisions that affect them. The role would suit someone who is current studying education, youth development or looking for part time work. No formal qualifications are required but would be an advantage.

  • A passion for working alongside students and experience working with young people (desirable)
  • Ability to interact with young people and provide an opportunity for them to share their views and enhance student engagement.
  • Ability to facilitate group-based discussion sessions
  • Liaise and build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and communicate with students from a diverse range of backgrounds and lived experiences
  • Awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural protocols and sensitivities
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills • Be available to work occasional Saturdays (once a month)
