Senior Underwriter

Description:

The Senior Property Underwriter performs day to day operational underwriting functions within a State Underwriting and Distribution team through the underwriting and negotiating of individual policy renewals, new business and mid term policy adjustments. The role contributes within the State to the execution of the Commercial Portfolio Strategy through the application of product, pricing, customer retention and acquisition strategies to deliver the targeted Insurance Trading Result (ITR) for the Product in accordance with the Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA). The Senior Property Underwriter, in collaboration with colleagues will grow and develop key intermediary relationships, deliver exceptional customer service and where appropriate, help facilitate multiline opportunities. The role collaborates across teams, removes blockages to performance, escalates issues and proactively looks for ways to simplify and improve the underwriting process.

What You’ll Do (not Limited To)
 

• Confidently discuss product fundamentals, risk appetite and communicate underwriting decisions to brokers and clients
• Recognise patterns/causes in the claims history and investigate any subsequent mitigation efforts undertaken to rectify the issues
• Assess ISR renewal and new business risks in accordance with the company appetite
• Engage with all stakeholders in respect of Risk Engineering activities
• Meet with large corporate clients including potentially, site visits and broker/client presentations
• Negotiate and arrange facultative reinsurance
• Provide valuable feedback to the team in respect of technical product matters, market trends and ways to improve plus dealing with referrals
• Identify potential problematic risk specific exposures and risk management issues and communicate to the broker and/or customer.
