The system safety engineering team supports the entire business in the delivery of large-scale projects, currently with a focus on vehicles. This rapidly growing team is headquartered at a recently established site in Brisbane and hence offers unique opportunities to influence setup and execution of the system safety work and for professional growth. Part of our team are based in our Melbourne office, centrally located in Southbank.
About the Role
The Senior System Safety Engineer is responsible for the creation and implementation of system safety programs on projects including the generation, development and maintenance of Deliverable system safety documentation (System Safety Program Plan, Safety Case Reports, Hazard Logs etc.).
As a Senior Systems Safety Engineer, you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:
- Deliver on complex projects individually, as part of a team or as a lead of a small team. Take full responsibility for all system safety aspects on allocated projects;
- Document the system/product safety arguments IAW the applicable standards for the design solutions, supported by the design engineers responsible for the design. Prepare formal Deliverable System Safety documentation (Safety Case Reports, Hazard Logs etc.);
- Evaluate vendor system/product safety deliverables in the context of integrated product safety argumentsand/or deliverables;
- Participate in formal and/or lead informal design reviews;
- Support creation and review of safety-related requirements;
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to agree appropriate controls to mitigate risks to product safety;
- Identify and/or support business improvement initiatives for the System Safety policies, processes and procedures;
- Support estimation for bidding activities, including helping to define and shape scope;
- Coach and mentor junior Engineers to develop their skills and capabilities;
- Provide system safety training to Rhm personnel for all safety processes where relevant;
- Provide professional peer reviews on product safety deliverables;
- Provide support in the creation of new work packages and resource estimation;
- Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures;
- Manage compliance risk and stakeholder and analyse design solutions for compliance with system safety requirements and recommend improvements;
- Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and report any concern(s) which may give rise to danger, and/or any injury which may occur in the workplace;
- Create and implement System Safety Program Plans for given project;
- Support the integration of System Safety into all phases of the product life cycle;
- Provide specialist advice as required; and
- Fulfil other duties and responsibilities that may be required as determined with your manager from time to time.
