Description:
As the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead a small team of mechanical and structural engineers, taking projects from ideation to bid/proposal, modelling, prototyping, manufacturing, testing and commissioning. You will be the technical point of responsibility for all mechanical design engineering and will be responsible for a broad range of mechanical engineering activities.
Duties include:
- Providing leadership and technical guidance to team members while driving productivity and delivery.
- Concept, design, prototyping and verification of new products from small high-value electronic assembly enclosures to large complex containerised systems for defence applications.
- Development of high-quality 3D mechanical CAD models Solid works.
- Preparation of manufacturing and assembly drawings for products and equipment.
- Preparation and maintenance of design documentation.
- Ensuring that products are designed and developed with consideration of project constraints and requirements such as budget, schedule, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensuring that products are designed considering user application scenarios and operating conditions.
- Design of verification and validation testing to ensure new designs are suitable for manufacture.
- Assisting with product translation activities to move new products into manufacturing.
- Prepare SDR (System Design Reviews) and DDR (Detailed Design Reviews) design packs for submission to clients for approval of designs.
- Gathering of OQE (Objective Quality Evidence) for the designs and the reasons and standards that have driven the design.
- Undertaking Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to determine induced stresses within equipment and assemblies.
- Implement and integrate the Windchill Product Data Management (PDM) system.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or related field.
- CPEng, NER and/or RPEQ.
- Mechanical design experience is essential.
- At least 10 years of experience in product development, guiding products from concept to market.
- Demonstrated experience in 3D mechanical CAD - Solid works.
- Experience working with a wide range of metals, engineering plastics and electromechanical hardware.
- Experience working in an ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
- NV2 Clearance or willingness to obtain
