About the Opportunity

As a Senior Hardware Engineer, you will be responsible for providing mechanical engineering services that are accurate, safe, on time, to budget, and to approved standards for the development or modification of mechanical equipment, systems and/or materials. You would be required to technical interface with all internal and external stakeholders and provide senior leadership and subject matter expertise.

The Senior Hardware Engineer will actively manage and develop the technical team to provide engineering output and technical support for development or modification of equipment, systems or materials; and will also be responsible for the preparation, integrity and delivery of mechanical engineering outputs and services to both internal and external customers.

More specifically, you will:

  • Apply a broad depth of expertise relating to the mechanical engineering domain to complex engineering problems and challenges issues.
  • Design and develop solutions, resolve engineering issues and problems for a range of situations.
  • Undertake functional analysis to identify the optimum solution against a set of requirements.
  • Develop optimised Mechanical system and equipment detail designs and present the designs in design reviews.
  • Undertake engineering management of the Mechanical system and equipment manufacture from the engineering data pack.
  • Carry out integration and validation of the Mechanical system and equipment design including contributing to the integration and validation plans and reports.
  • Undertake equipment qualification activities and analysis of results, plans and reports.
  • Assist in the production of estimates and creation of the production of design requirement specifications.
  • Act as Engineering, technical or design authority for a sub-system or Line Replaceable Unit (LRU).
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on matters relating to a discipline.
  • Develop, promote and share new technologies for implementation across businesses and programmes.
  • Act as point of technical excellence in problem solving teams, contributing to improvement of technical systems and processes, in areas of specialisation.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of personal and team technical capability to ensure high quality output.

About you

As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you'll have:

  • A relevant qualification coupled with commercial/contract management experience, ideally gained in a similar industry. Experience of ASDEFCON would be ideal.
  • Ability to effectively and technically communicate with engineers, Project Management and cross-functionally within, and external to, the project.
  • Extensive experience in analysis tools.
  • Ability to function confidently within a project team environment.
  • Self-motivation and a proactive approach to progressing all assigned tasks.
  • Ability to lead and collaborate effectively with others, including other engineers, production, suppliers, and designers /draftspersons.
  • Ability to train and mentor more junior engineers through good team building skills.
  • Proven ability to function confidently within a project team and broader business environment.

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain appropriate clearance.

International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) are applicable and as such, your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role.
