An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to work closely with leaders and key stakeholders in the Tech Services team, Development department and wider MICO team. Reporting to the Superintendent Geotechnical, you will be working closely with, and leading, diverse stakeholders, across multiple sites as a conduit between strategy and execution
Mount Isa Mines is the second largest producer of copper in Australia and one of the largest zinc mines in the world. It is a key asset in Glencore’s global mining portfolio. As one of the world’s largest Mining Operations and Australia’s deepest, this is a challenging position technically. However, with a team of experienced peers and a strong technical leadership team you will be well supported and developed.
The successful candidates will be responsible for:
- Ensure compliance is maintained to the Ground Control Management plan and QLD mining quarrying and Safety ACT;
- Delivery of high quality, practical design plans and documents in a timely manner.
- Ongoing feedback on the status of design buffers to the Technical Services leadership.
- Identify and communicate risks to the delivery of the mine plan to the Technical Services leadership.
- Oversee design including the distribution of work between team members
- Work with mining engineers to understand and deliver on design priorities
- Supervise and critically review the work of the geotechnical engineers
- Train and mentor members of the team
- Take the initiative to ensure we achieve the intent of the Geotechnical Department Strategy.
- Ensure operational feedback is considered and integrated into daily routines (Geotechnical Hazard Reports, damage mapping, etc )
- Review ground control performance with regard to design, operational practices and design assumptions
- Identify potential vulnerabilities to future mining plans and implement planning and control measures to quantify and minimise risk to personnel & production
- Auditing and review damage mapping and other geotechnical databases
The successful candidates will have:
- A tertiary degree or an equivalent qualification in Engineering or a Geoscience, with majors in Mining and or Geotechnical engineering;
- Approximately 6 years’ experience (or more) in underground hard rock mining;
- AusIMM Chartered Professional Status in Geotechnical Engineering ideally with RPEQ accreditation with the Board of Professional Engineers Queensland (or must be eligible to apply and we will support you to undertake);
- Competent in using the following software packages, Rocscience software packages, Deswick, Leapfrog3D FLAC3D and Map3D;
- A sound knowledge of risk management, safety systems and legislative requirements.
- Teamwork, strong communication skills, effective problem-solving skills, analytical skills;
- High level of accuracy in their work and ability to manage time effectively.
- Australian Manual Drivers' Licence or international equivalent.
