Description:
GHD’s Natural Resources group has an opportunity for a Senior Botanist and accredited BAM assessor to join our Ecology team in Newcastle or Central Coast to assist with the delivery of a range of exciting and high-profile projects.
You will have the opportunity to work in a broad range of conservation, impact assessment and monitoring projects, and with vegetation types including grassland, wetland, forest and woodland communities, from the Mallee to alpine areas, in partnership with GHD’s clients, land managers and state government bodies.
You’ll join and collaborate with a fun, flexible, supportive and inclusive team of passionate terrestrial and aquatic ecologists, to deliver projects and to help guide and mentor junior team members. - Contributing to the delivery of biodiversity values and constraints assessments, impact and offset assessments and monitoring and management services related to project approvals and natural area management
- Assisting ecology team members in the application of the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM)
- Biodiversity impact assessment and offsetting for high profile major projects and preparation of Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements
- Provision of advice and direction regarding relevant regulatory frameworks and project approval pathways
- Leading the delivery of proposals and technical reports for clients
- Managing and delivering projects on time and within budget and to required quality standards
- Maintaining relationships with clients and regulatory agencies
- Assisting in mentoring and training of junior staff
What You Will Bring To The Team
- Experience in biodiversity impact assessment and offsetting
- Accreditation to apply the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM)
- Demonstrated skills in the development and delivery of effective ecological assessment, monitoring, evaluation and reporting
- Experience in botanical survey and vegetation management and experience in the application of the BAM
- Proven skills in flora and fauna species identification, plant community type mapping and threatened ecological community identification
- Knowledge of NSW and Commonwealth regulatory frameworks and policy with respect to listed threatened matters, biodiversity assessment, offsetting and management
- Knowledge of ecological communities across various environments in NSW
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Well-developed interpersonal skills: a team player who builds rapport with both internal & external stakeholders communicates and is able to provide technical review and guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members
- Tertiary qualifications in botany, ecology or related discipline
