We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Officer, Research Projects to join the dedicated research team within our world-leading School of Pharmacy. Our School of Pharmacy is one of the largest Schools of this type in Australia with over 50 academic staff (including joint appointments with the community, hospital and government pharmacies) who are widely published internationally and have extensive research backgrounds.

Located at Brisbane’s Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence (PACE), adjacent to hospital, research and industry partners, this is an exciting opportunity for you to join a vibrant laboratory and to develop your expertise and emerging research profile.

This 12-month fractional position (0.4 to.0.7) will assist in the coordination of a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) funded pharmaceutical trial (2022 to 2025) for the treatment of alcohol use disorder. The role will involve patient recruitment, management of trial documentation, database management, patient contact with brief consultations focusing on medication adherence, and amendments to existing ethics and governance approvals.

The Senior Officer, Research Projects will provide specialist research technical support and subject matter expertise in support of high-quality research project outcomes at all stages of the research life-cycle, and have experience in clinical trials. Australian Health Practitioner Registration Authority (AHPRA) membership (nurse, psychologist, medical practitioner, other allied health professionals) is desirable, but not essential.

  • Coordinates aspects of the research project cycle, including planning, recruitment, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation to support the successful completion of projects

  • Utilises research project management

  • Provides research project and administrative support, including monitoring and reporting on project plans, milestones and deliverables

  • Assists with implementing research project plans, including collating documents and records regarding relevant issues to ensure projects comply with agreed research methodologies, ethics and governance procedures

  • Direct patient contact to assist in completing assessment and monitoring medication adherence

Technical/Scientific Research

  • Provides technical research advice on appropriate methods, quality assurance procedures, risk assessment and database management

  • Develops and maintain a full working knowledge of the methodologies and techniques utilised at all stages of the research project

  • Assists in the development of research procedures and methodologies, including analysis of quality outcomes

Research and administrative support

  • Coordinates research documentation, including existing ethics and governance, and funding applications

  • Prepares reports, graphs, figures and presentations on research outcomes at different stages of the research cycle outcomes

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Advanced Research Technician to apply their subject matter expertise and advanced knowledge to assist study chief investigators with the coordination of a pharmaceutical trial for patients with alcohol use disorder.

Essential

  • Completion of a relevant degree in with subsequent experience in coordinating activities, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Demonstrated project management skills, including

  • Demonstrated research project-relevant knowledge and skills with expertise in a wide range of specialist and general research techniques including patient recruitment, management of trial documentation, database management, patient contact with brief consultations focusing on medication adherence monitoring, and amendments to existing ethics and governance approvals.

  • Advanced knowledge of

  • Significant experience of working in

  • Well-developed problem-solving skills, with an ability to forward plan, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work with a high level of adaptability, both independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to produce clear, succinct documentation and the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a research environment

  • Australian Health Practitioner Registration Authority (AHPRA) membership (nurse, psychologist, medical practitioner, other allied health professionals).

  • Experience and skills in data analysis and manuscript preparation for publication.

  • An avid interest or previous experience in developing more junior research staff.
