Located in the Lifestyle and Community Directorate, the Parks and Recreational Services Branch plans and manages a diverse network of high-quality parks, conservation areas, open spaces and sport and recreational facilities. It develops and implements programs for outdoor social and physical activities; protects and improves the city’s biodiversity, and contributes to city walk ability, cooling and beautification through a comprehensive greening program.

Reporting to the Senior Recreational Services Officer, this position is responsible for assisting in the effective planning, development and operation of Council’s community, sport and recreational facilities. The position will liaise, advise and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders with regard to complex and politically sensitive projects.

  • Deliver desired outcomes to assigned projects in accordance with legislative requirements, Council policies and procedures, and corporate goals and objectives.
  • Lead and assist in multi-functional projects and within project teams.
  • Provide advice in the evaluation of projects and identify viable solutions in consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain effective information systems and associated reports, files and other documentation.
  • Develop and maintain open and transparent working relationships and effective communication between Recreational Services and internal/external customers.
  • Tertiary qualifications in project management, sport or recreation or demonstrated equivalent experience (Mandatory)
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills with particular emphasis in the areas of consultation, negotiation, influencing, conflict resolution and assertiveness.
  • Experience in project management activities with the ability to develop, administer, manage and evaluate projects, programs, services and resources.
  • Well developed analytical, problem solving and investigative skills.
  • Experience in being part of multi-disciplinary project team.
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to organise self and others for timely completion of tasks.
