Project Officer

Description:

We are seeking to appoint a Project Officer – Prostate Cancer Outcomes Registry (PCOR) at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research (Menzies), part of the College of Health and Medicine.

Menzies is one of Australia’s leading health and medical research institutes and is recognised worldwide for its research excellence. Menzies’ mission is to perform internationally significant medical research leading to healthier, longer and better lives for all Tasmanians. Research takes a bench-to-bedside and disease prevention approach that is aimed at improving patient care and clinical outcomes for the community by translating knowledge into clinical and policy actions and through the commercial application of discoveries. Tasmania, an island state with a population of over 500,000 people, has a discrete health system that enables close engagement with the University and with government agencies and health providers and offers a unique framework for translational health research.

The Prostate Cancer Outcomes Registry Australia and New Zealand (PCOR – ANZ) is designed to describe patterns of care for prostate cancer, the stage at which men are being diagnosed, treatments they are receiving and their quality of life after diagnosis. Importantly, the PCOR-ANZ provides a platform for research to improve outcomes for men and families impacted by the disease. The role of the Project Officer, Prostate Cancer Outcomes Registry - Tasmania (PCOR – Tas) is to ensure the effective operation of this project in Tasmania, and in accordance with the goals and objectives of the PCOR-ANZ.

As the new Project Officer, you will be responsible for managing the day to day operation of the Registry in Tasmania, including the collection of high-quality data and the reporting of outcomes back to hospitals and clinicians. The position sits within the Tasmanian Cancer Registry (TCR) at Menzies, and also as part of a national team, contributing data to the PCOR – ANZ and associated registries such as TrueNorth Global.

  • Under broad direction of the PCOR – ANZ, Tasmanian Cancer Registry (TCR) and PCOR-Tas Steering Committee, manage and coordinate the day-to-day operation and activities of the Registry in Tasmania.
  • Extract information from clinical records held by participating clinicians and hospitals in accordance with an approved protocol, and work with clinicians to ensure quality capture of data and with a high-degree of confidentiality.
  • Enact the protocol, develop and manage supporting policies and procedures specific to the PCOR-Tas, and as approved by the PCOR-Tas Steering Committee.
  • Operate within all applicable laws, procedures and standards and be responsible for the management of all applicable Human Research Ethics Committee applications and approvals specific to the operation of the Registry in Tasmania.
  • Contribute to the development of reports, analyse data, undertake reviews, produce data quality reports and provide guidance to the PCOR-Tas steering committee, participating clinicians and PCOR - ANZ on a routine basis.
  • Completion of a degree level qualification with related work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Experience working with a large health-related research project or working with clinical quality registries.
  • Experience working with computerised databases used for managing and analysing health-related data including extracting data and producing reports.
  • Good interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and use initiative and problem-solving skills in the day-to-day coordination of the project and the achievement of milestones and deadlines.
