About the Research and Education Group

AIATSIS is at the forefront of research lead by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
people, who are involved as researchers, partners and drivers of our research priorities
and projects. Within the Research and Education Group, we lead by example in
conducting and funding research to the highest ethical standards and we have a
genuine commitment to building pathways for knowledge exchange. We have the lead
on many program areas such as Indigenous country and governance, native title,
education, research and ethics, languages and culture and heritage. The Group supports
an annual flagship AIATSIS summit and connects AIATSIS with universities and the
wider research sector to coordinate and influence research agendas.

About the Role

The Education team sits within the Research and Education Group. The Project Officers
within the Group support projects, engage with communities and stakeholders, produce
and maintain useful resources, assist in holding forums and events, and contribute to
innovative communication and publication outputs and reporting on outcomes.

The Project Officer in Education will work in collaboration with the Education team to
support the development and delivery of projects that influence what children learn in
schools about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. This includes
implementing the key goals in the Education Strategy, 2021-2025:

  • Developing and implementing a cutting edge schools program.
  • Generating world-leading education resources.
  • Developing and delivering culturally responsive professional learning for

educators.

The Project Officer will have analytical, organisational, administrative, and writing skills
to support the work across the Education team.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • contributing to multiple projects and delivering results across the Education team
  • developing and implementing Education team administrative, organisational, and

logistical procedures and processes, in line with AIATSIS and APS requirements

  • undertaking regular administrative tasks, such as reconciling team credit cards,

completing delegated financial tasks, responding to email inquiries, and other
supporting administration duties.

  • liaising with internal and external Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-

Indigenous stakeholders, including to facilitate permission processes for material
being used by the Education team

  • contributing to and providing feedback on internal and external documents

  • providing logistical support for professional learning and school workshops

undertaken by the Education team

  • actively contributing to a positive team culture
  • other duties as directed.

Our ideal candidate
To meet the requirements of the role you will have:

  • the ability to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a small team
  • excellent organisational and administration skills, and proven ability to deliver on

tasks

  • ability to work with autonomy to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities
  • exceptional proficiency using the suite Microsoft Office 365 applications, including

SharePoint and Teams

  • ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with a wide range of

internal and external stakeholders at all levels

  • ability to work with precision, demonstrating close attention to detail and ability

to follow procedures carefully

  • ability to provide clear written communication and correspondence to a high

standard.
