Project Engineer

 

Description:

We are seeking a dedicated Project Engineer – Fibre to join our Fibre Assurance Team. This role is accountable for the design, build, maintenance, and relocation of Optus infrastructure. The Project Engineer will plan and coordinate the construction of capital projects to expand Optus’ telecommunications infrastructure for Core and Customer Access Networks. Additionally, the role involves maintaining and relocating existing infrastructure as triggered by network rearrangements or requested by external utilities.

Your day in the life of a Project Engineer at Optus
 

  • Collaborate with the Manager, and other Project Engineers to develop a highly reliable and efficient network.
  • Deliver engineering orders on time while meeting the required standards of quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide technical supervision to a team of specialist people and contractors engaged in the commissioning and maintenance of Core and Access network infrastructure.
  • Conduct day-to-day operations, maintenance, and integration of the Optus aerial and underground network.
  • Supervise, splice, and test new fibre circuits and maintain these circuits.
  • Collate data and submit fibre loss sheets, OTDR traces, and PMD test results to the Records Team.
     

Your Skills To Pay The Bills
 

  • Manage projects associated with infrastructure build and maintenance/relocation.
  • Flexibility to work in an on-call roster as required.
  • Hands-on experience in fibre splicing, fault finding, and testing using various methods and equipment.
  • Knowledge of OTDR and OLTS testing equipment.
  • Achieve all project schedules, KPIs, and accountabilities while meeting operational and budgetary requirements.
  • Liaise with utilities such as Telstra, Local Councils, Government Departments, and Ausgrid.
  • Work closely with Sales, Design, and other Delivery people to ensure all milestones and engineering projects are completed on time and efficiently.
  • Perform quality inspections on all works carried out by contractors and ensure company policies and procedures are followed.
  • Flexibility to work in a on call environment as required.
  • In-depth knowledge of optical fibre delivery methods, installation practices, and route selection.
  • Confirmed experience in a commercial environment overseeing contractors.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience of fibre splicing, fault finding, and testing.
  • Current driver’s licence is critical.
