Policy, Precincts and Innovation is responsible for providing policy direction, planning and leading innovation for integrated simple, safe connected journeys. Road Safety Victoria is a Division the Department of Transport, and is responsible for leading the Victorian Government to achieve Zero road fatalities by 2050

About the Role

The Safer Road User Behaviour and Access (SRUBA) team provides specialist project and policy support across a range of key road safety areas including road user behaviour, licensing, network access, active transport safety and education.

The Project and Policy Officer works in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary focused team as part of the Behaviour Stream of SRUBA, and contributes towards the development of policies, briefing material, and offers a range of project support that may include engaging with internal and external stakeholders and procurement activities.

The ideal candidate will understand the policies, will be able to use road safety research and policies to guide their work. We are seeking a skilled Project and Policy Officer with passion for road safety who will be able to contribute towards the development of policies, briefing material and will be able to offer a range of project support that may include engaging with internal and external stakeholders and procurement activities. They will be able to take steps to add value for the client or stakeholders, have a high level of communications skills that impact the audiences.

You are an accomplished individual with strong interpersonal skills who possess resilience, being open to new ideas and approaches, offering their opinions, asking questions, and making suggestions while maintaining discipline in keeping to planned or assigned. You will be self-aware, able to understand the impact of your emotional responses on self and others and assess personal strengths and weaknesses using feedback from team members. Working collaboratively, you will build a supportive and cooperative team environment, engage other teams to share information, and support others in challenging situations.

Position Outcomes

  • Provide project management support including project monitoring, financial management and reporting.
  • Provide sound policy advice, quality evidence-based proposals, and policy briefings to senior management and DTP's business areas on road safety initiatives and contribute to the development of evidence-based road safety policies and initiatives.
  • Support negotiations with and influence key internal and external stakeholders to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Contribute to a high performing team that supports a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and personal growth, and demonstrate flexibility to work with different teams within Road Safety Victoria as required and as priorities change.
  • Support research activities to identify opportunities, through regulation, promotion and education, to support safe road user behaviours.

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

  • A tertiary qualification in the behavioural sciences or a related field

Desirable

  • Experience working in the public sector
  • Project management/support experience
  • Experience in behavioural road safety policy.
