Developed over a long history, the Bureau of Meteorology has thousands of products across a diverse range of domains including weather, climate, water, oceans, and space weather. Examples include radar imagery, observation bulletins, weather forecasts, warnings for severe weather, climate outlooks, and model outputs. Our products are primarily digital and are delivered to customers through a wide variety of channels, such as the Bureau website, mobile app, file transfer, social media and many more.

The Bureau is changing the way it manages its diverse portfolio of products. Our objectives are clear ownership and management of every product, active product curation (including retirement at the right time), and clear pathways from customer feedback to product changes.

We are seeking dedicated Product Managers to oversee all activities related to the development, communication, maintenance, sustainability, and retirement of products.

Product Managers will curate products within a product 'family' using shared templates and enterprise-wide tools and processes. They will develop a deep understanding of their products and history to help make plans for their future. This will involve reaching across the Bureau and building expertise to summarise complex information, making evidence-based recommendations, and turning insights and ideas into real product changes which create impact and value for our customers.

This is not a coordination, IT or Agile role. Instead, it is a deeply hands on role for a candidate who will build knowledge of specific products within a product set, or family. They will be personally responsible to ensure those products continue to meet the needs of the Bureau’s customers. To do so, they will engage across the organisation to capture customer insights from priority sectors, work with technical specialists and scientists, build business cases, and undertake the day-to-day work of moving products through the lifecycle from concept to retirement, as well as creating product roadmaps.
