Environmental Operations branch are responsible for the preservation, management and enhancement of council’s diverse range of environmental and nature based recreational assets and in partnership with our community, the rich biodiversity of the region’s landscapes.

The branch plays an active role within council, liaising with other business areas, as well as with the community to maintain and deliver high quality environmental outcomes.

Manager Environmental Operations is responsible for leading the on-ground delivery for the protection and enhancement of the region’s land, waterways and coastal natural environments.

Key responsibilities include:

• Translate Council’s long-term vision and strategies to inform the development of tactical and operational planning to guide the ongoing management and delivery of high-quality environmental assets and services to protect biodiversity and enhance sustainability
• Actively balance the conservation of environmental values and facilitating sustainable community access for nature-based recreation activities, including the management of high-profile environmental visitor education and recreation precincts, and tracks and trails networks
• Lead engagement with and establish collaborative partnerships with Traditional Owners, landholders, the community, NGO’s and State agencies to successfully deliver environmental projects and programs
• Facilitate community conservation partnerships, environmental volunteer programs, and citizen science opportunities to support the monitoring, management and enhancement of the region’s environmental values
• Encourage imaginative thinking and harness new ideas, processes and technology to enhance efficiency, improve sustainability, and embed resilience
