Network And Systems Engineer

 

Description:

As a member of the Infrastructure and Security Team, the ICT Network and Systems Engineer provides expertise in the areas of systems, network and network security. Working in a small team of skilled individuals, the role provides key input into the design and implementation of network upgrades and is the main provider of support, management, installation and configuration of the organisation's LAN/WAN network infrastructure

Key responsibilities
 

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of appropriate ICT solutions that further the organisation's e-business capabilities, with a particular focus on network security and data integrity.
  • Diagnoses and resolves server and network related problems.
  • Managing and maintaining switches, routers, firewalls, and network components
  • Administration of server infrastructure and backup environments.
  • Maintains infrastructure by undertaking proactive monitoring, regular patching and upgrades, optimising of IT Systems, measuring capacity and performance, performing backups and undertaking preventative maintenance.
  • Responsible for establishing network security baseline configurations and continuously auditing existing configurations to ensure they are in line with current best practices
  • Assist with preparation and testing security measures and DR procedure.
  • Contributes to and participates in the Institute's quality improvement processes

Experience
 

  • At least 7+ years' experience in supporting and maintaining a Cisco and Wintel environment.
  • Experience in configuring network devices, including firewalls, switches, VLANs, wireless networks.
  • Demonstrated experience in configuring and maintaining physical and virtual Windows (2012/2016/2019) based servers.
  • Experience managing Cloud computing platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS
  • Experience in managing infrastructure for high volume public facing websites.
  • Identifying current and emerging technology issues including security trends, vulnerabilities, and threats
  • Demonstrated experience with infrastructure hardening processes and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
  • Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills and ability to self-manage and work in a team.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
