Description:
We have a new opportunity available for a National Electrical Engineer to join our Opal Fibre Packaging team. We can offer flexibility around where this role is based, but ideally either VIC, NSW or QLD. There will be an expectation of around 50% travel in this role across sites in Australia.
The focus of this role will be to lead site-based changes and projects within Opal. It will require an in depth understanding of electrical systems, excellent project management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders including site teams, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and contractors.
This role requires a proactive individual with a proven track record in leading electrical engineering projects in the industrial FMG space and driving successful outcomes.
Key elements of this role will include:
- Project Leadership: Lead electrical engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budget, and quality standards.
- Site Collaboration: Collaborate closely with site teams to understand electrical infrastructure needs, identify improvement opportunities, and implement changes effectively.
- OEM and Contractor Management: Coordinate with OEMs and contractors to procure necessary equipment, services, and expertise for project execution. Manage relationships to ensure timely delivery and quality workmanship.
- Technical Expertise: Provide technical expertise in electrical engineering principles, codes, and standards to support project design, implementation, and troubleshooting activities.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions and ensure safety and compliance.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance electrical system reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness across sites.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of project specifications, drawings, and reports. Prepare regular progress reports and updates for stakeholders.
- Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to site teams on electrical safety practices, procedures, and new technologies.

We are looking for:
- Ideally a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent technical experience
- Proficiency in electrical engineering principles including circuit design, power systems, electronics, and electromagnetism.
- Experience with CAD (Computer-Aided Design)
- Experienced in PLC programming, including Siemens, Omron and Allen-Bradley
- Understanding of industry standards and regulations governing electrical systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical issues and devise innovative solutions.
- Critical thinking skills to analyse data, evaluate alternatives, and make sound engineering decisions.
