The Career Medical Officer (CMO) is expected to work across the Northern Sydney Local Health District component of the Psychiatry Training Network B on a rotational basis to provide continuity of care and support the various Mental Health Drug and Alcohol (MHDA) services including participation in duty rosters - evening, night, weekend, and public holiday rostered shifts as required. The main purpose of the position is to provide effective specialist psychiatric health services to patients, whilst undertaking learning and professional development activities.

The Psychiatry Training Network B is a comprehensive Training Network which offers all mandatory training on a rotational basis. Network B covers four Local Health Districts – Northern Sydney, Central Coast, Western and Far Western, and also include placements at Justice Health and other health care providers eg private sector. Whilst this position is primarily to work for Northern Sydney Local Health District, secondment to other Local Health Districts might be considered or required.

All services operate within a multidisciplinary team-based environment and the CMO will be working with and reporting to consultant psychiatrists. The clinical work will involve working within a multi-disciplinary context and conducting assessments and planning treatment and/or discharge in accordance with the NSW Mental Health Act (2007). Supervision will be provided primarily by the Consultant Psychiatrist of the assigned rotation.

The position will provide clinical services within Northern Sydney Local Health District and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the district.
