Job Summary

Act as member of the ANZ Medical Affairs team and be a member of the Asia-Pacific Therapeutic Area team. The Medical Advisor (MA) will work with the Medical Affairs team to ensure that Allergan successfully supports and leads the market with respect to education and training initiatives, and that Allergan is successful in the positioning of its portfolio of products vs. competitors. As an internal medical/technical/scientific resource, the individual will have the opportunity to influence Allergan customers and ultimately impact the success of the business. The role demands competency in practical aspects of patient care, and ability to use medical and scientific information to facilitate engagement of physicians and others in the clinical and basic science issues relevant to Allergan’s products. The MA will be responsible for driving projects from concept to execution, and thus the individual must be an innovative self-starter, who takes ownership of tasks and can work independently at a national level with direction from the Associate Medical Director. The MA will be required to perform field visits with key physicians and stakeholders, organize advisory board meetings, facilitate clinical trials, and serve as the medical resource for both external and internal stakeholders. It is expected that this person will exhibit the core competencies of scientific acumen, critical thought, self-study, independence, information sharing, resourcefulness, and the ability to give practical advice and the ability to influence.

The Primary Responsibilities In Supporting Allergan Therapeutic Area (TA)

Support medical and scientific aspects of Allergan’s activities in the use of the TA products. This requires a close working relationship with key Influencers and Specialists in ANZ, as well as other health care professionals involved in the care and treatment of their patients. Plan and execute training, educational activities, advisory board meetings and local phase IV studies and IITs. There will be a goal to ensure that there is identification of local needs for data, and there is KOL support among specialists for reimbursement working with the Market Access team.

key duties & responsibilities

  • Work closely with Associate Director Medical Affairs, ANZ to set priorities, strategy and activities of Medical Affairs. Develop and execute against a plan to support physicians and other medical professionals, as well as, maintain Allergan’s success in the TA. Work closely with the Regional Medical Affairs team and International Therapeutic Lead to ensure alignment of local activities with those of the region.
  • Through field visits, improve doctors’ awareness of Allergan products, share scientific data supporting their use, train professionals in their proper use, and develop physicians’ expertise and comfort in prescribing their use. This is largely a customer facing role, and as such, there is an expectation of interaction with KOLs/customers approximately 65% of the time, with travel expected throughout ANZ.
  • Work closely with commercial team to conduct or facilitate training to physicians and provide proper influence to Therapeutic Leads and doctors externally. Help shape the company’s leadership image in ANZ.
  • Facilitate training to field sales personnel and others to ensure up to date knowledge of Allergan products and relevant disease states and conditions. Assist in the evaluation of sales team members’ skill and knowledge levels with regular Q & A sessions. Assist in the development of training materials, exams and evaluative process for field sales personnel. Provide interpretation and perspective to competitor activities.
