The Office of the Pro Vice Chancellor Communications and Engagement is a newly created portfolio within the University bringing together media, communications, government relations, events, alumni, philanthropy, marketing and brand. Our aim is to create a high performing team that works together to raise the profile, reputation and engagement with the University’s key stakeholders and partners. An important part of how we will achieve this is through effective and creative story telling by sharing our successes, achievements and activities using a variety and channels and techniques.

Our aim is to create a high performing and dynamic media and communications team with a focus on creative story telling and strategic media and communications support.

Initially reporting to the Pro Vice Chancellor Communications and Engagement, this will form part of a national team that is responsible for creating high quality and engaging content across the full range of media and communications channels, as well as providing strategic advice on all internal and external communications and reputational issues.

The role will require flair, creativity, and innovation to discover, create and edit unique content that is engaging and easily understood by targeted audiences across a variety of channels and using a mixture of communications techniques. The role will also provide strategic communications support to a range of projects and initiatives as required across the University.

  • Be responsible for the end-to-end development & delivery of effective Corporate communication strategies, initiatives, events and conferences.
  • Provide strategic advice and insights on a range of communications issues and opportunities as they emerge.
  • Provide vision, creativity and flair to enhance the University’s media and communications activities.
  • Collaborate to develop and implement enhancements to the University’s media and communications activities.
  • Identify new ways of successfully telling our stories and building engaged audiences using a wide variety of communications channels and techniques.
  • Build relationships with the mainstream media and key publications to promote our stories to a wide audience; liaise with the media and handle requests for interviews, statements.
  • Coordinate with key stakeholders including colleagues across the University to identify, research and tell engaging stories about the work of the University.
  • Deliver projects through careful time management and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Work with colleagues as part of a high performing media and communications team to develop and implement a whole of university media and communications plan including measurable KPIs aligned to the University’s strategic goals.
  • Implement modern, efficient and best practice processes and systems to support the delivery of the strategy and achieve KPIs.
  • A degree in media, publishing and communications or related fields with at least 4 years’ experience in media and journalism across Australia.
  • Excellent understanding of the media, publishing and communications profession.
  • Demonstrated skills in writing, video production, design, layout and publishing using a variety of technologies and platforms.
  • Strong influencing and communication skills to achieve high quality outcomes with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating discretion and handling highly confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Superior relationship building skills and demonstrated ability to cultivating relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated skills in problem solving and creative thinking to meet a range of business requirements.
  • Demonstrated planning and organisational skills, with the ability to lead a number of events / projects at one time, achieve required outcomes and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
