Description:

The Programs & Operations Manager will be responsible for leading the design and development of programs within the Innovation Precinct in accordance with the Innovation and Enterprise value creation strategy and the operational management of the Innovation Precinct. Reporting to the Director Commercial Innovation Programs, the role will be a member of the Innovation Precinct leadership team, whilst working across the I&E portfolio and the wider university.


The role will lead Swinburne’s efforts to design, develop and deliver a suite of innovation programs that will transform the university’s approach to student entrepreneurship, amplify staff engagement in commercialisation pathways, create seamless transitions between IP management, commercialisation and industry engagement, and consistently drive value creation for our partners. The role will also take responsibility for delivering and building on Swinburne’s existing suite of programs, including pre-accelerators, accelerators, masterclasses, venture cup, the IP commercialisation framework, and portfolio management of Swinburne’s active licenses and spinouts. The Programs & Operations Manager has one direct report, Events and Partnerships Coordinator and will work closely with Swinburne’s Design Factory Melbourne, Swinburne Edge and the Industry Engagement division to integrate and streamline programs across these portfolios and more broadly across the university.

To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills including the ability to build and maintain effective networks, develop collaborations and partnerships at senior levels with a diverse range of external partners.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen with expert knowledge and track record of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Australia or abroad
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to prepare high quality business plans, proposals, presentations and reports – significant experience in marketing
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to use initiative and problem-solving skills in order to organise and prioritise workload and provide practical solutions for problems
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, liaise and negotiate effectively and sensitively with senior university staff and industry to build productive relationships and facilitate mutually beneficial outcomes.
