This role is not only to maintain the status quo but to actively examine opportunities for continuous improvement as they relate to environmental and social aspects unique to the operation. This in part is achieved by leading and developing the site S&ER group which is responsible for the successful execution of its business plan that align and supports the short and long term strategies and objectives of both NBG and overarching corporate body.

This is a permanent full time position based at Boddington, based on a 5/2/4/3 roster. Travel to Perth and Bunbury will be required.

The Role
 

  • Delivery and execution of a S&ER plan that supports the annual site business objectives and aligns with regional and global S&ER strategic plans and public targets;
  • Planning, coordinating, developing, implementing and ongoing appraisal of S&ER management systems and S&ER personnel;
  • Implementation and management of social responsibility and community relations programs that are executed at the site level including enterprise-level commitments, social risk management and grievance reconciliation;
  • Representing NBG to enhance its reputation, improve public perceptions and maintain advocacy of key external stakeholders;
  • Offsetting closure liability through concurrent rehabilitation and verification programs;
  • Monitoring, management and reporting of internal and external compliance conditions;
  • Securing necessary government approvals as required by evolving mine plans, legislative changes and corrective actions stemming from environmental incidents and accidents;
  • The evolution of departmental personnel to address corporate and site cultural challenges while ensuring the consolidation of S&ER bench strength for the region.
  • Provide leadership, through coaching, mentoring and support for performance and development activities, to members of the S&ER Department to ensure high levels of performance.
     

About You
 

  • Tertiary qualification in a related field with extensive experience in a similar position.
  • Extensive knowledge of/and ability to apply State and Federal relevant environmental and heritage statutes, laws and regulations.
  • Ability to lead culturally diverse staff and ensure that the department has clear objectives and strategies and that they are carried out in a manner that the department’s direction is clear.
  • Ability to manage and communicate to various groups about Newmont’s position relating to environmental and heritage issues and minimise any adverse reaction, and experience in community engagement around Native Title and Partnership Agreements.
  • Knowledge of mine management including operation of tailings facilities, acid mine drainage, cyanide, closure, offsets and other major SER aspects as they relate to mining.
  • Knowledge of Social Performance and experience with Social Impact Assessments.
  • Experience in development and execution of community investment strategy.
  • Experience with conflict resolution, incident investigation and with the use of safety systems as they relate to site SER aspects.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Current “C” Class WA Drivers License.
  • Senior First Aid certificate (desirable).
  • Experience with management systems and standards including but not limited to Towards Sustainable Mining, International Cyanide Management Code, Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management, ICMM Mining Principles and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
