The Aboriginal Community Housing Industry Association (ACHIA) NSW is the peak body for Aboriginal Community Housing Providers in NSW. ACHIA NSW was established in 2020 to be a strong, effective and independent voice for the Aboriginal community housing sector.

Through top-down advocacy, ACHIA NSW promotes the interests of Aboriginal Community Housing Providers (ACHPs) and influences policy, strategy and outcomes for Aboriginal housing. Propelling voices from the ground up, ACHIA NSW provides a voice to government that is knowledgeable, experienced and directly connected to Aboriginal communities in NSW and their housing services.

Further to ACHIA NSW’s successful application for government funding, a team has been developed to match the needs of this growing association.

The Role

Reporting to the Director – Closing the Gap, Policy & Communications, The Manager - Partnerships & Policy provides pivotal strategic advice to ACHIA in the improving outcomes for ACHIAs membership, stakeholders and the Aboriginal community housing sector.

The role is to develop and implement innovative and emerging projects to support the growth and sector sustainability of the Aboriginal Community Housing Providers (ACHPs) and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) across NSW that provide housing.

The role works across the whole of ACHIA providing specialist advice to improve outcomes for ACHIA members/ stakeholders through partnerships, policies and positive engagement.

You will have experience working at a managerial level within a similar organisation, with a track record of positive engagement working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.

This role is based remotely however you must be located in NSW to be successful as occasional travel across NSW is required.

Key Responsibilities

This position is a fixed term position up to two years with responsibilities including but not limited to the below:

  • Leading and developing specific strategies for new business which includes identifying, pursuing, confirming financial, in-kind and academic partners for ACHIA in line with ACHIA’s strategy, mission and ‘Closing the Gap’ objectives;
  • Establishing new partnerships, following up existing and emerging leads and developing a portfolio of multi-year, high-value, brand-aligned partners for maximum social impact in the Aboriginal community;
  • Lead and implement the Corporate Partnerships portfolio through the growth of Corporate, NFP and Academic partnerships who meet and align with ‘Closing the Gap’ ACHIA and industry objectives;
  • Managing and conducting specific research into policy areas as agreed with the Director – Policy & Communications including approved initiatives and programs in line with ACHIA’s mission and objectives;
  • Developing and implementing partnership campaigns which endorse and encourage cadetships at all levels of academic study including TAFE, Universities, Corporate (private sector), Not-for-Profit and Public Sector organisations.

You will also bring with you:

  • Confirmation of Aboriginality;
  • Degree in either/or government, public policy, economics, political science/social services and/ or relevant extensive experience;
  • Sound understanding of Aboriginal Community Housing sector/Aboriginal controlled organisations, their needs and issues including ‘Closing the Gap’ policies affecting them;
  • 3-5 years proven Management/Business Development experience, leading Partnerships or Fund-raising campaigns;
  • Leading, managing and bringing complex/ multiple projects to completion;
  • Managing and contributing to policy and policy development for and with non profits/ social service sectors;
  • High level communication and presentation skills; generating and sharing ideas for improvement;
  • Experience in planning and delivering successful events, forums and workshops;
  • Understanding of logistical, ethical and human rights issues affecting Aboriginal people including knowledge of their cultural protocols and track record of engagement;
  • Proficiency in computer operation including Microsoft Office and ability to learn new systems.
  • Willingness and ability to travel both locally and regionally (including overnight travel).
