The Bureau provides information, advice, support and services across Australia about our weather, water, oceans and the climate. To do this, we need to form strong relationships across all levels of government to ensure when it’s needed, we can all support the community.

As a Commonwealth Government agency, the Bureau operates under the Agriculture, Water and Environment Portfolio and reports to the Minister for the Environment, and on water matters to the Minister for Water Resources, Drought, Rural Finance, Natural Disaster and Emergency Management.

The Government Relations Team leads the coordination of our contribution to all Parliamentary, Cabinet, Ministerial and intergovernmental activities at a Commonwealth, State and Territory and local level. As one of the few organisations that touches the lives of all Australians and all of Australia, we take our responsibilities to report to the Parliament and respond to elected officials seriously. As our climate and weather continue to make daily headlines, we continue to be at the forefront of the minds of many in politics. We play a key role in many parliamentary inquiries and cross-government activities, providing our expertise in meteorology, climatology, and hydrology. The team also proactively and strategically manages the Bureau’s relationships with elected officials and other Australian Government departments.

As the Manager, you will lead a small team to liaise across the Bureau to support the Minister and senior leadership team. You will develop and deliver a strategic approach to managing engagement with elected officials to ensure they have the information they need to support their communities.

In a fast-paced role, you will have a high profile in the organisation as your advice on parliamentary processes, stakeholder engagement and ministerial preferences is highly sought after. You will be a trusted adviser to senior managers in peak periods. You will be expected to be flexible and strategic about how you react to emerging issues.
