Working in Downer’s Group division and as part of a team of specialist employment lawyers and IR professionals, the role supports and manages employment law and IR matters for a business with 25,000 Australian employees working across a wide range of industries. On a day-to-day basis you will be working with the broader commercial and HR teams to deliver advice and education to the business on employee entitlements and employee relations issue through / in addition to:
 

  • Employment law claims management
  • Advice on employee entitlements; and
  • Employee relations advice and support.
     

About You:

The ideal candidate for this role will hold or demonstrate:
 

  • Tertiary qualification in law and hold a current unrestricted practising certificate.
    • 2+ years IR/ER experience in an in-house role; OR
    • Employment in a legal practice with experience in employment and industrial relations advice and disputes.
  • Ambition, eagerness to learn and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong stakeholder relationship skills and ability to deliver legal advice and training to a non-legal audience.
  • Proficient knowledge of state and federal workplace laws and experience advising on complex enterprise agreement negotiations or disputes.
  • Proven ability to understand and interpret industrial instruments, legislative obligations, contracts of employment, company policies and associated documents.
  • Experience in managing simultaneous employment litigation in a range of jurisdictions.
  • Available to travel approximately once a quarter (1 - 2 nights).
