Legal Counsel

 

Description:

Our client is seeking a Legal Counsel or Senior Lawyer to join their team in Sydney, Australia, to assist with pumped hydro and synchronous condenser projects, and other projects involving industrial plant and processes.

 

The position is based out of Sydney and the role involves primarily providing support to their hydro business division.

You will be part of the Legal team and report to the Regional General Counsel (APAC) in India. However, your day-to-day work will entail working very closely with Legal colleagues in E.U. (primarily Austria), and colleagues in Australia, E.U., and New Zealand.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will be responsible for in-house legal matters including drafting agreements, addressing compliance issues, and participating in negotiation discussions. In order to succeed, this candidate should feel comfortable working with in-house and outside counsels on a variety of legal matters.

  • It will be a broad role with a range of responsibilities across the full life cycle of the projects, from RFI to contract execution
  • Supporting sales located in Europe, India, Australia and New Zealand in reviewing, negotiating and finalizing various documents such as non-disclosure agreements, ECI agreements, contracts for engineering, procurement, supply and installation services, sub-supplier contracts, and long-term maintenance contracts
  • Playing an integral part in the delivery of legal services to the business by providing timely, accurate, well considered legal advice, and a robust assessment of risk
  • Assisting project managers involved in project execution with the preparation of legal-related correspondence
  • Working with in-house specialists and external counsel on any claims, disputes and entitlements
  • Maintaining close collaboration with the global project team (across multiple time zones)
  • Providing training on local law and compliance related matters
  • Assisting in the delivery of best practice OHS&E attitude and performance.

REQUIRED

  • A strong work ethic with a willingness to go above and beyond to get the job done.
  • Bachelor and/or Master’s degree in Law
  • 4-7 years PQE (admitted to or working on projects in NSW, QLD, Victoria or Tasmania).
  • experience working in-house or private practice in Australia
  • someone very keen to grow in the role with a small team for a large overseas company but huge potential for growth in Australia
  • strong in negotiations and capable of working in a standalone role whilst also working closely with other teams across different time zones
  • ability to work a non-standard 9-5 day and liaise with global teams
