As the occupant of this position, you will be a member of the Operational Technology and Engineering (OTE) Section. The role of the OTE Section is to ensure the development, delivery and operation of measurement equipment and systems meet the Bureau's performance and functional requirements. This includes the following sensors/networks:

  • Radar and Wind Profilers
  • Automatic Weather Stations
  • Solar Radiation
  • Ozone
  • Flood Warning
  • Sea Level
  • Aircraft Based Observations

OTE Section is made up of a diverse team of specialists and engineers responsible for the development and design of engineering and technological solutions, incorporating level three maintenance support, on a range of technologies spanning from radars to rainfall stations, drifting buoys to dedicated observations, and satellites to ships at sea, to meet business needs.

The Lead Engineering Draftsperson, with one direct report, is part of the Systems Engineering and Quality Assurance (SE&QA) team. The SE&QA area, which also includes a Drafting Office, provides a range of specialist advice and services to the Bureau across the networks being managed.

As Lead Engineering Draftsperson, reporting to the SE&QA Manager, you will be responsible for managing all activities of the Drafting Office, including undertaking complex 3D modelling of Bureau equipment and producing fully dimensioned drawings for fabrication and installation.

You will work in a cooperative and flexible team environment and liaise closely with scientific, engineering and technical staff to produce high quality outputs to ISO and Australian standards.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Extensive experience and in-depth understanding of Autodesk® Inventor® solid modelling and drawing preparation techniques as well as up to date proficiency in the use of AutoCAD® 2D drafting tools
  • Extensive experience in the preparation of complex 3D design assemblies and the knowledge and ability to influence equipment design and fabrication decisions
  • Extensive knowledge of, and ability to apply, AS 1100 Parts 101 & 201 'Technical drawing' and ISO 1101 'Geometrical product specifications' standards
  • Ability to work within a Quality Management System (ISO 9001)
  • An understanding, or ability to quickly gain an understanding, of Systems Engineering principles (e.g. ISO 15288)
  • Proven ability to work within a team environment
  • Demonstrated experience in prioritising and managing numerous concurrent task
  • Strong communication and liaison skills
  • Enthusiasm and drive
