The University of Melbourne aims to unify its museums and collections under a Cultural Commons, enhancing scholarly and public value. The Museums and Collections Department oversees various cultural assets, fostering a collaborative network for knowledge exchange.

As part of the Learning Experiences Team, you will collaborate with STEM Centre for Excellence, Science Gallery Melbourne, and Art Museums to deliver inclusive school learning programs. Funded by the Beth Maclaren Smallwood Foundation, your focus will be on advancing STEAM education for Deaf/deaf and hard of hearing students over five years.

Your responsibilities will include:
 

  • Leading the design and facilitation of STEAM learning programs and resources for Deaf/deaf hard of hearing students in school settings, enhancing their museum and collections learning experiences.
  • Establishing STEAM learning programs by cultivating relationships with schools featuring deaf facilities, supporting Deaf/deaf and hard of hearing students' engagement with the Museums & Collections Learning Experiences program.
  • Developing accessible resources for Deaf/deaf and hard of hearing students, teachers, and the public to support exhibitions at Science Gallery Melbourne, Buxton Contemporary, Ian Potter Museum of Art, and Old Quad.
  • Be a collaborative staff member of the Learing Experiences Team and be willing to teach hearing students one day per week.
  • Collaborating with the Head of Learning Experiences and Learning Experiences Team to strategise and build relationships with school communities and organisations supporting Deaf/ deaf and hard of hearing students and teachers.

You will also have:
 

  • Current VIT Teacher registration with at least three years of experience in a school setting, specializing in Deaf/deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Demonstrated interest and capability in teaching across STEAM curriculum areas
