Lurnea High School is a comprehensive, co-educational secondary school located in the city of Liverpool. The school serves a diverse community of learners with 84% of students having a language background other than English (LBOTE) and of that number 75% require EAL/D (English an additional language or dialect) support. ?There are 721 students including 24 students of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background.??

?The school has a Support Unit of 109 placements for students with mild, moderate intellectual delays and autism. The school also has an Intensive English Centre (IEC) catering for the English language learning needs of newly arrived migrant and refugee students (numbering between 85- 120 annually).??

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria:

1. Capacity to lead and manage a large support unit in a mainstream high school setting, enabling students to thrive academically, socially, emotionally and physically, and gain the skills to live a fulfilling, independent post-school life.

2. Ability as a member of the executive team to effectively implement the vision for the school as articulated in the strategic improvement plan.?

3. An awareness and understanding of working in a complex setting inclusive of students from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds and experiences.

4. Capacity to establish effective partnerships with colleagues, parents and the broader community to improve learning outcomes for all students in support class placement.

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
