Grafton High School is a large comprehensive secondary school of over 820 students, located on the traditional lands of the Bundjalung people on the North Coast of NSW. The school contains a support unit with 7 classes and is partially selective, with a selective class in each of Years 7 to 10. The school is the oldest public high school on the North Coast and has a long-standing reputation for academic, cultural and sporting achievement. 18% of students identify as having an Aboriginal background. All students participate in a wide range of cultural recognition and learning experiences focusing on local Bundjalung culture, language and dance. The school's permanent staffing entitlement in 2022 was 67 teaching staff and 18 non-teaching staff. The school employs a number of additional teaching and non-teaching staff from school base and equity funding; including a Business Manager, Transition Adviser and Head Teacher Administration. The school has forged strong community and industry links through a number of initiatives, and has a small but highly active P and C. Senior curriculum is broad, with the Science faculty currently offering the majority of Stage 6 options to students.

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

1 - Demonstrated ability to inspire, develop and lead staff at all stages of their career through evidence informed teaching and learning practices, professional learning, and reflective practices promoting effective teaching and learning.

2 - Demonstrated ability to lead the Science faculty in developing and implementing high quality programs, assessment tasks and learning experiences that are engaging and differentiated to meet the needs of students from a range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.

3 - Demonstrated ability to lead and support staff in the implementation of effective classroom management strategies that enable an engaging and safe learning environment.

4 - Capacity to work as a supportive and collaborative member of the executive team to lead, manage and implement whole school processes and initiatives that support the school's strategic directions.

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
