Head of Engineering - Wpay

 

As Wpay has transitioned from an internal Woolworths capability to industry level commercial proposition, it will be important to step change our approach to engineering.
As an engineering leader, you will be responsible for ensuring a professional, compliant, and consistent approach to tooling, automation, cloud deployments, design patterns, and integration.

You will be collaborating with multiple product teams to help drive continuous improvements to the risk profile, quality and robustness of existing systems.

Your Role :

  • Develop and manage a team of people with relevant technical skills across a broad range of disciplines.
  • Contribute and approve system designs across all delivery streams.
  • Design secure & robust platforms with a service based approach.
  • Drive the engineering roadmap to support “best of breed” & “best value” technology solutions to align with the overall business strategy and brand product roadmaps.
  • Ensure a broad and up to date knowledge of the latest digital technologies.
  • Constantly challenge the status quo & be open to new technologies & ideas.
  • Understand, manage and consistently challenge the output of 3rd party contributors to ensure maximum value is being realised.
  • Identifying opportunities for team training and skills advancement
  • Ensure technology solutions are designed in such a way that they are robust and can be easily supported in an operational context.
  • Constantly drive opportunities to minimise manual effort, e.g. automation of testing & deployment, transformation to cloud services, consistency of non-prod environments, customer sandpit creation etc.
  • Drive CICD & automation including security quality checks, system performance tests and deployment practices across all delivery streams.
  • Develop performance objectives for the team and individuals – track & communicate accordingly in line with the established performance management guidelines.
  • Ensure high standards and consistency of documentation, including contribution to artifacts that will be shared with 3rd party merchants.
  • Work to ensure all systems are compliant with PCI-DSS standards.
  • A “just in time” data engineering approach will be critical as we commit to providing related services and reporting to our customers.
  • Engineer tooling and design patterns that support observability and alerting.

 

Required Skills & Experience:

 

  • Extensive experience with developing & maintaining large scale platforms
  • Strong planning & prioritisation skills.
  • Strong business acumen and communication skills.
  • Strong team building skills.
  • Strong understanding of Agile & Lean delivery principals.
  • Strong experience in core coding languages including .Net, Java, Javascript, REST, GraphQL, noSQL/SQL server.
  • Strong experience with automation and data tooling.
  • Strong experience cloud hosting such as GCP & Azure and function based apps (including SaaS, PaaS, FaaS)
  • Extensive experience with cyber security, systems & data compliance.
  • Extensive understanding of CICD processes
  • Implementing regular audits targeting system security resilience and PII data protection levels, and risk controls.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning concepts is highly regarded
  • Strong data & analytics experience is highly desirable.
