In this role, you will improve the educational outcomes of students by developing the quality of teaching and learning across the school. The successful applicant will be a highly skilled teacher who will lead the renewal of the school's approach to pedagogy as defined in the Department of Education's P-12 Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework. You will collaborate, innovate, work flexibly and with passion to build the pedagogical capabilities of teachers. You will also support staff to employ effective pedagogical practices, digital pedagogies and high-impact and differentiated teaching strategies. This is a school funded position that reflects the school's improvement priorities.

The Head of Department (Teaching and Learning) will join a committed and collaborative school leadership team consisting of the Principal, 3 Deputy Principals, 5 Heads of Departments, 3 Heads of Years, Head of Special Education, Guidance Officer and Business Manager.The Head of Department (Teaching and Learning) will be accountable to and supervised by a Deputy Principal and will work in close collaboration with the Head of Department (Teacher Development) and faculty focussed Heads of Departments.As an instructional leader, you will research, define, identify, model, shape, monitor and celebrate effective teaching and learning and the development of expert teaching teams. Through intentional collaboration and instructional leadership, you will:

  • prioritise a sharp and narrow focus for improving pedagogical practices to align with the schools' improvement agenda
  • respond to the diverse learning needs of the schools' context, cohorts, classes, groups and/or individual students;
  • determine the pedagogical approaches and practices most effective, in relation to the principles of pedagogy
  • employ effective pedagogical practices and high-impact teaching strategies;
  • monitor and measure how effectively the pedagogies employed are working to support students improve in their academic achievement, wellbeing and engagement.
