Description:

The MRI Head Radiographer reporting through the Chief Radiographer is responsible to the Campus Operations Manager for the day to day clinical/operational management of the MRI Unit by determining professional standards and operational objectives of all Radiographers assigned to the unit to ensure the provision of an effective and timely Imaging service across Flinders Medical

Centre.

The incumbent oversees the management of the daily work load of the unit, ensuring a timely and efficient service by determining procedure scheduling often as lead professional, ensuring appropriate human resources, including consultant radiologist, nursing, anaesthetic staff and physical resources are available to undertake these procedures. Operating with minimal professional direction they establish procedural standards for MRI services at Flinders Medical Centre which is broad and complex in nature.

They undertake very complex procedures, including sub-specialty areas of Cardiac, Neonatal, Paediatric, anaesthetic, neurosurgical, neurological, spectroscopy and functional procedures often requiring innovative scanning methods without professional direction as an independent professional. They undertake the assessment and application of Medicare description requirements ensuring activity outcomes meet Unit budget. They are regularly involved in a range of research/clinical audit programs in a very complex specialised environment exercising significant professional judgement based on up-to-date discipline knowledge.

They contribute to clinical outcomes by providing services that form the basis of patient diagnosis and subsequent treatment and management by radiologists, referring clinicians and surgeons.

They manage complex MRI projects which may involve personnel from a variety of professional.

Educational/Vocational Qualifications:

  • Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification, which entitles a statement of accreditation in Diagnostic Radiography from the Australian Institute of Radiography (now ASMIRT), or its recognised equivalent (up to July 2012) and then registration with the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia (post July 2012).
  • Holds a Radiation Licence.
  • Holds Level 1 MRI Accreditation (AIR/ASMIRT).
  • Holds Post-graduate qualifications in MRI practices.
