Geologist

 

Description:

Reporting to the Senior Geologist the purpose of this role is to be responsible for the design and execution of underground grade control diamond drilling activities, the supervision of geological data collection to inform the GRE46 geology model and to supply reliable technical information to the mine planning teams.

 

Key result areas in this role include:

 

  • Designing, forecasting, and coordinating underground grade control diamond drilling activities to align with LOM designs and schedules in collaboration with mine planning and operations
  • Maintaining and updating the underground grade control systems and procedures
  • Completing diamond drill core logging and contribute to the improvement of core data systems
  • Supervision of underground diamond drilling contractors
  • Monitoring, validating, and maintaining underground sample QAQC to a high standard and action any exceedance from Evolution standards
  • Collaborating with core yard personnel to ensure timely processing of underground diamond drill core
  • Assisting with the generation, development, and maintenance of grade control databases and block models in conjunction with the resource geologist
  • Mentoring and training underground mine geologists and Junior geologists as required to ensure the delivery of appropriate standard work by the geology team
  • Assisting with the compilation of monthly reconciliation and End of Month reporting within an acceptable timeframe.
  • Contributing to medium to long-term improvement projects assigned by the Senior Mine Geologist.
  • Liaising with assay contractors to communicate requirements and manage issues with sample quality.
  • Working within and complying with the Evolution Mining and CGO site-specific safety and health management system
  • Understanding and complying with requirements of environmental approvals and relevant environment, health, and safety legislation
  • Demonstrating behaviours aligned with the Evolution Mining values

 

About you

 

The ideal candidate should maintain professional work standards, collaborate effectively within a team, and engage with key stakeholders while possessing excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You must demonstrate technical report writing ability, strong problem-solving skills, self-discipline, and a focus on continuous improvement. You must hold a current unrestricted C class manual driver's license, be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and have a well-developed understanding of mining processes, sampling theory, QAQC methodologies, and the capability to perform geological mapping in the underground environment.

 

It is also important that you have/can demonstrate:

 

  • Tertiary qualification in geology or geoscience
  • Membership of Professional Society (e.g. AusIMM or GSA)
  • Previous exposure to underground mine geology
  • Proven experience supervising underground diamond drilling contractors, with management of multiple rigs and drilling programs highly regarded
  • Experience with Geological and Block modelling preferred, with exposure to geostatistical methodologies highly regarded
  • Experience logging diamond drill core
  • Capability in interpreting geological information and employing geostatistical methods for modelling
  • Geological and Block modelling skills and Geostatistical experience is highly regarded
  • Competent user of the mine planning software (Deswik/Datamine), Leapfrog and industry standard databases for geological data
