This is an exciting time to join Svitzer Australia! We currently have an opportunity for a General Manager to join our team in Fremantle, WA, to lead, both strategically and operationally, harbour and terminal towage in 12 ports across Western Australia, Northern Territory and Papua New Guinea.

We are looking for someone who will bring visionary leadership skills, an ability to engage and motivate a workforce of 350+ people, an innovative and creative mindset, high emotional intelligence – and of course, a passion for the maritime industry!

What You Will Do

Your key responsibilities in this position will include:

  • Ensuring all operational, corporate, and business unit strategies are aligned, reviewed, and successfully implemented for the operation
  • Responsibility for overall performance and profitability of operations including the development, monitoring and accuracy of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports
  • Oversee and motivate direct reports to achieve business and personal objectives whilst fostering engagement and an effective, collaborative team culture
  • Accountability for the operation’s safety performance and legislative compliance
  • Develop and build strong relationships with our key customers and stakeholders including port authorities, terminal and harbour towage customers, government bodies and maritime unions
  • Fleet management and deployment in consultation with the Fleet Director

What You Will Need To Succeed

  • Senior management experience in a multi-faceted organisation, with responsibility for driving cost efficiencies and maximising revenue opportunities
  • Competence in coaching, mentoring, and empowering direct reports to develop and foster an effective working environment and culture
  • A sound understanding of financial management with the capability to prepare and monitor budgets and set accurate forecasts and analyse reports
  • Ability to contribute, influence and make decisions within multi-functional and geographically dispersed operations with complex industrial environments
  • Ability to build relationships, both internally and externally, to facilitate a cooperative and effective work environment
