Assurance is the largest Service Line in Asia Pacific. The largest part of the business is Audit, which is undergoing Service Delivery Model Transformation in a complex regulated operating environment. There is strong ambition to grow the wider Assurance business, including the FAAS and Forensics business, whilst also exploring new service offerings. Assurance currently employ close to 30,000 people across Asia Pacific markets.
This role works alongside our Area SL Finance leader, responsible for delivering Assurance Finance’s Exceptional Client Service agenda to the Assurance leadership team and the wider business.
The principal day-to-day stakeholders will be the Area SL Finance & Operations Leader, Area SL Deputy Leader and members of the Assurance leadership team across all markets. You will be a member of the Area Finance management team and will have day-to-day line management responsibility for members of the Finance team aligned to Assurance.
Your key responsibilities
Service Line Support
- Support of the key transformation and growth initiatives:
- Service Delivery Transformation Have visibility of the steps to taken and provide financial support via modelling and tracking improvements as they are realized.
- Investments. Support the business in understanding the investment needs and requirements to achieve Vision 2020+ ambition and feed into Growth & Investment Plans.
- Support the build out and ongoing business as usual activities of Area businesses: For example, APACE.
- Utilize the planning process and related communications to achieve alignment of priorities; analyze and challenge Plans, highlighting key issues, opportunities and provide remedial recommendations.
- Responsible for the successful delivery of the Finance Exceptional Client Service agenda to Assurance (Insightful – Connected – Responsive). Will take a proactive and hands-on role towards achieving these, co-ordinating the efforts of the wider Finance team who support Assurance
- Develop effective working relationships with Operations & Business Leadership, becoming a key influencer
- Maintain an overview of key business issues at all times. Extrapolates key messages from the numbers and shares these timely with leadership and partners.
- Deliver robust month-end process. Results are understood quickly. Performance commentaries are timely, insightful and action oriented
- Contribute towards completion on time of the various EY Plan/Forecast/Business Planning exercises. Ensure outputs align to wider Area & Global objectives set for Assurance (e.g. revenue growth versus profit improvement) and that financial goals ultimately represent stretching but achievable targets
- Process improvement: help support finance and operations process improvement initiatives, e.g. emphasis on forward looking management information and forecasting, financial models for new ways of operating such as Centres of Excellence or new business offerings
- Orchestrates delivery of ad-hoc analysis depending on business issues. Ability to model multi-year business projections by SSL and Market and identify the trends and issues that need to be analysed and understood
- Stakeholder management: keep Area Assurance SL Finance Director and Leadership updated on business performance themes as is needed. Helps facilitate discussion at monthly Service Line performance review. Builds relationships also with Area Assurance finance and operations teams.
- Help identify and implement change management activities required to ensure Mercury/SAP readiness. As well as understand the Mercury Economics and champion Mercury as a business solution with internal clients
Wider role with Global Finance Support
- Build close relationship with the Global Assurance Finance team to ensure quality and consistency in service delivery to the Assurance business
- Work closely with the Global Assurance Finance leadership to help delivering Finance’s key priorities
- Execute on Mercury
- Enhance Finance’s ability to deliver insights to the business
- Implement the finance operating model
- Execute EYs talent strategy for finance (continuation of the finance academy)
Wider Role within Asia Pacific Finance
- An active contributor and role model within the wider Asia Pacific Finance team. Builds relationships with Service Line business partner peers and also Asia Pacific CFO network. Proactively shares best practice and experiences.
- Leads and manages those within the team aligned to Assurance, to include broader coaching and counselling responsibilities as needed.
- Plays a visible role towards the development and achievement of the Asia Pacific team objectives. Active member at monthly Finance all-team meetings.
- Global Finance Transformation: plays a role towards influencing the development of these initiatives, to ensure that the practical day-to-day reality of providing Finance support to Assurance are heard and understood.
- Program Mercury: this is an increasingly key focus for Asia Pacific Finance. Will need to play a key role towards making the implementation a success for Asia Pacific and Asia Pacific Assurance.
Supervision Responsibilities:
Leadership, coaching and day to day management of APAC Assurance finance team
Skills and attributes for success
To qualify for the role, you must be/have:
- Qualified accountant, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent, with a strong track record of financial management, analysis and control, ideally in a professional services firm.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills – can work alongside and gain the trust and respect of a wide range of stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
- The confidence and credibility to challenge and manage the business leaders and senior partners, as well as build bridges and harmonise divergent interests and priorities that can exist within a matrix management structure.
- Experience of leading and motivating a team towards the successful delivery of objectives.
- Customer focused, passionate and responsive.
- Good team player with a proven ability to succeed within a matrix management structure
- SL finance leadership experience, working directly with the business leaders, preferably with knowledge of the Assurance business
