The Production and Maintenance Team operates within the Operations Branch, responsible for delivery of critical services within the Questacon operational environment. The Production workshops provide comprehensive mechanical, metal and wood fabrication, electronics, IT and engineering capabilities.

The Exhibit Technology team within the larger Production team is responsible for developing and maintenance of software, electronics and technology for Questacon’s interactive exhibitions. Close collaboration with the 2D, 3D design, Concepts and other Questacon teams are a crucial part of the process.

The Exhibit Technology software developer role is an exciting opportunity to work in a unique team and workshop environment, on many varied projects utilising a wide variety of skills and technologies, contributing to Questacon’s mission delivering high quality robust interactive systems for exhibitions.

  • Formal training and qualifications within the IT field. Demonstrated high level programming and development skills for Windows PCs including screen based 2D and 3D graphics, general programming and interfacing with external devices. Experience with computer networks desirable
  • Demonstrated development experience with microcontrollers such as the Arduino platform
  • Knowledge of current technology within the IT, Electronics and AV fields such as PC hardware, LCD monitors and large format display panels
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge of electronics including wiring soldering and basic circuit operation and construction
  • The ability to solve problems, provide solutions and investigate products and technologies as required in the exhibit development process
  • Be able to work within set timelines
  • Work effectively within team environments
  • Willingness to develop new skills as required to meet the current requirements
  • Possess a current driver’s license

    Working primarily within the Production team and reporting to the Exhibit Technology team leader duties will include:

  • development of software for Questacon’s interactive exhibits using a wide range technologies, devices and environments including PCs, micro controllers, video display technologies, Human interface devices, Sensors and many other electronic devices
  • Work within small development teams providing solutions and advice as required
  • Develop prototypes for early concepts to demonstrate the operation of components for use in the interactive exhibits
  • General assembly and production work using hand tools and including tasks such as wiring, soldering and component mounting.
  • Maintaining the operation of existing exhibits at Questacon as well as external venues. Travel within Australia may be required on occasion
  • Research technologies, techniques, products and systems as required to solve moderately complex problems.
