The Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity (ACLEI) is an independent agency within the Attorney-General’s Portfolio, established to support the Integrity Commissioner in carrying out his or her responsibilities for detecting, investigating and preventing corrupt conduct in Australian Government agencies with law enforcement functions. The Integrity Commissioner has extensive powers, including the ability to hold coercive hearings, and ACLEI investigative staff are able to use a range of law enforcement powers to assist in the Integrity Commissioner’s investigations.

Reporting to the Deputy Integrity Commissioner, the Executive Director Operations will lead a Branch with operational responsibilities such as assessing and investigating allegations of corrupt conduct in relation to staff members of agencies within ACLEI’s jurisdiction or supporting such investigations.

The Executive Director Operations will assist the Integrity Commissioner to lead, participate in, review and/or oversee investigations and related work including the gathering and analysis of information and intelligence about allegations of corruption within those agencies.

As part of ACLEI’s Executive Team, the Executive Director Operations will provide leadership and strategic direction to ACLEI staff and accept accountability for the efficient management of the agency’s resources. This role includes assisting development of individuals within the team, supporting ACLEI to contribute to policy development, medium and long-term planning and ensuring effective financial resource management within the Branch.

The successful candidate will work under broad direction from the Deputy Integrity Commissioner, and in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct and upholding the APS Values. Key activities of the position include:

  • Providing strategic leadership of a Branch within ACLEI, with operational functions such as assessment, investigation, analysis and intelligence gathering and operational support in relation to corruption allegations.
  • Providing evidence based and well researched advice to the Integrity and Deputy Integrity Commissioner on matters that arise from undertaking the functions of ACLEI.
  • Leading stakeholder engagement, including representing ACLEI at meetings and conferences and undertaking outreach activities to increase the community’s awareness of the role of ACLEI.
  • Leading the implementation of ACLEI’s Corporate Plan within the Branch and continuous improvement within the workplace.
  • Contributing directly to the work of the Office as a member of the Executive team.
