With a strong focus on enhancing wellbeing and establishing healthy lifestyle habits at any stage of life, the Events and Engagement Officer plays a vital role in encouraging participation at any level from spectator, supporter, participant, representative to competitor. Our aim is to inspire students to try new things, move each day and find out there is more to university life than study.

Your new role

Commencing in the New Year, an exciting opportunity is available for an Events and Engagement Officer to join the Sport and Recreation team at Curtin University. This position is weighted towards marketing and engagement of the student market, however, also requires assisting third party event organisers who have booked the use of the Stadium facilities and contributing to the planning of key Sport and Recreation events as noted below.

The marketing and engagement portion of the role requires:

  • promotion of programs, services and facilities to students, staff and the wider community
  • development of content for distribution through various channels including social media platforms, website and to various stakeholders
  • contribution to and rollout of the annual Sport and Recreation marketing and promotional plan
  • planning and coordination of on campus activations to encourage student participation
  • communications to key stakeholders
  • providing marketing and communications support to all areas of Sport and Recreation as required

The event portion of the role requires:

  • Responding to venue hire enquiries and working with clients to secure bookings
  • Ensuring clients adhere to the University events requirements and submit all required documentation
  • Planning and coordination of staff to set up the event and assist throughout the event
  • Liaising with other University departments and stakeholders of upcoming third party events
  • Coordinating a small selection of internal events including VC Sports Day (in conjunction with the Sports team), annual Sport Awards and Sport and Recreation presence on campus during orientation weeks.

The ideal incumbent will have a keen interest and experience in marketing and communications as well as events, a strong work ethic, excellent time management and organisational skills accompanied with the ability to meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team with the ability to develop relationships across a large organisation.
