The Role & The Team

As a Senior Engineering Specialist (IT), you will be responsible for the technical performance of one or more operational software-based airways voice communication systems used for the provision and support of Air Navigation and Aviation Rescue & Fire Fighting Services, ensuring that a system meets its agreed technical performance requirements.

This includes:

  • Perform system design, maintenance and support tasks throughout the system life cycle in accordance with Airservices’ safety and system management policies, frameworks, guidelines and procedures; and
  • Apply Systems Engineering and technical specialist expertise in the areas of planning, design, acquisition and implementation of new systems and upgrades to existing systems.

You will Perform system engineering tasks in accordance with the Airservices' Technology Management Framework (TMF) and other processes, policies and guidelines.

These include (but are not limited to):

  • Manage in-depth investigations, analysis and diagnosis of complex system issues, and recommend and implement solutions;
  • Prepare documentation related to system upgrade activities such as system requirements specifications and technical instructions; and
  • Manage on-going system changes as they occur to assure technical integrity at the system level
  • Develop and maintain the suite of engineering and technical documentation
  • Provide specialist technical expertise to projects for systems supported by Airways Systems
  • Actively participate in cross training to develop specialised skills and technologies
  • Australian Citizenship (requirement for Australian Defence Security Clearance)
  • Demonstrated experience applying Systems Engineering practices and processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Demonstrated sound judgement and business acumen, with a focus on results in a service delivery environment
  • Demonstrated values-based behaviours, and ability to support organisational capability and culture
  • Ability to provide technical mentoring and coaching to others
  • Understanding of DO-278A guidelines, software assurance levels and relevant processes and artefacts
  • Required to hold Registration as a Professional Engineer in relevant area of engineering in accordance with relevant legislation e.g., Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ)
